The Nome River is a 65 km long tributary of the Bering Sea in western Alaska .

The Nome River rises 7 km southwest of Salmon Lake at the foot of the Kigluaik Mountains in the southwest of the Seward Peninsula . It flows south through a wide valley. The Nome – Taylor Highway follows the course of the river. 13 km above the mouth of the Osborn Creek , the most important tributary of the Nome River, meets the river on the left. The Nome – Council Road crosses the Nome River just before it flows into Nortonsund , 5 km east of the city of Nome . The Nome River estuary is separated from the sea by a spit . The catchment area of the Nome River covers approximately 410 km².
