Nommo Award for African Speculative Fiction

The Nommo Award for African Speculative Fiction (short Nommo Award ) is a prize for literature of genre fantasy , science fiction , horror , fantasy and related fields, at least to a considerable extent by an author or a writer from Africa originated. The prize has been awarded by the African Speculative Fiction Society (ASFS) since 2017 in the categories of novel , novella , short story and graphic novel and is endowed with a total of 3000 US dollars . Nominations are made by members of the ASFS; the winners are determined through an online vote among ASFS members. The name of the award refers to a pair of twins from Dogon mythology who take the form of fish standing on their tails on land, as depicted in the ASFS logo.

The African Speculative Fiction Society , a newly founded professional association of African authors in the field fantasy , announced the festival Aké Arts and Book to give the plan the following year the Nommo Award for the first time 2,016th The British entrepreneur and educational philanthropist Tom Ilube acted as a patron when it was founded and donated the prize money of $ 3,000 per year for four years in advance.
