Norbert Bishop
Norbert Bischof (born March 6, 1930 in Breslau ) is a German psychologist and systems theorist .
life and work
Norbert Bischof began his scientific career with Erich von Holst and Konrad Lorenz and became known for researching the incest barrier in gray geese . He carried out research in Seewiesen , Los Angeles , and Zurich and has been an honorary professor at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich since 1997 . In 1982 he was elected a member of the Leopoldina Scholars' Academy .
In 1966 he wrote for the Handbuch der Psychologie (Volume 1/1, edited by Wolfgang Metzger and H. Erke) the contribution " Epistemological basic problems of perception psychology", the first systematic presentation of critical realism for the psychology of perception , one to this day too Relevant treatise for the epistemological position of Gestalt theory . Bishop also later published on basic problems in psychology.
One of his most important works is Das Rätsel Oedipus , in which he argues for a biological incest barrier and derives the Zurich model of social motivation . This model is now considered an important integrative model for human motivation.
Another work is the book Kraftfeld der Mythen , in which the concrete implications of the framework model set in the riddle of Oedipus are discussed. The book investigates the extent to which myths are subject to and have been subject to a kind of "Darwinian Selection - The Survival of the Fittest". How could these last for more than 2000 years? To what extent are there special "old stories" that are existentially (and thus "psycho-biological" / "psychophysical") significant for people.
Quote (p. 55ff): "The central problem of mythology is not the authenticity ( note: the existence of an original version ) but the stability of the fable. Why are the real myths comparatively immune to it on their long journey from word-of-mouth individual arbitrariness, private fantasies, accidental misunderstandings and well-intentioned reinterpretations? How can you explain that even in law firms that are geographically, culturally and, last but not least, linguistically far apart, mythical contents often match in astonishing detail? " Quote p. 75: "Could it be that this inner world is the ecological niche to which the myths had to adapt ...?"
In 2003, Norbert Bischof and his wife Doris were the first research couple to receive the German Psychology Prize .
