Norbert Otto Eke (born August 1, 1958 in Nördlingen ) is a German specialist in German .

Life

From 1978 to 1984 Eke studied German and Protestant theology a. a. at the Free University of Berlin and received his doctorate in 1988 with a thesis on the playwright Heiner Müller . His habilitation took place in 1995 with a study of German drama during the French Revolution around 1800. From 2003 to 2006 he was professor of German literature at the Universiteit van Amsterdam . Since 2006 he has held a professorship for modern German literary studies at the University of Paderborn .

Eke deals with literary theory and aesthetics at the interface of philology, theater, cultural and media studies, so u. a. as part of the interdisciplinary graduate school automatisms, which was based at the University of Paderborn from 2008 to 2017. His research focuses on literature and theater from the 18th to the 21st century, in particular pre-March and contemporary literature as well as especially German-Jewish literature. Research stays led him a. a. to the USA and China. He was visiting professor in Budapest , Athens / Georgia , Havana (Cuba) and Tokyo .

Eke is co-editor of the magazine for German philology and the Amsterdam contributions to modern German studies . He is the second chairman of the “Vormärz Research Forum” (FVF).
