Almas Monassypow ( Tatar Almaz Zakir ulı Monasıypov , Russian Алмаз Закирович Монасыпов , born July 11, 1925 in Kazan , TASSR , USSR ; † July 22, 2008 in Moscow , Russia ) was a Tatar composer , conductor , Honored Artist of the RSFSR (1987) , People's Artist of the Republic of Tatarstan (2000), Honored Artist of the Tatar ASSR (1969), Winner of the State Tuqay Prize of the Republic of Tatarstan (1991).

As one of the first among the Tatar composers, Monassypow embodied the old layers of the national tradition in modern music, such as bait ( Tatar бәет bäyet ), Munadjat ( Tatar мөнәҗәт mönäcät ) and book singing ( Tatar китап көе kitap köye ). The composer's symphonic poem Mussa Jalil and the vocal-symphonic poem In the Rhythms of Tuqay ( Tatar Тукай аһәңнәре Tuqay ahäñnäre ) are recognized as Tatar musical classics. As one of the greatest Tatar composers of the second half of the XX. In the twentieth century Almas Monassypow made a great contribution to the development of Tatar music.

Life

Almas Zakir ulı Monasypow was born on July 11, 1925 in Kazan. Music often played in the family of the future composer: his father loved to play the violin. At the age of eleven, Almas entered the Kazan City No. 1 Children's Music School to learn to play the violoncello . In the music school, and then in the Kazan music college, the teacher of Almas Monasypov was the famous teacher RL Polyakov, who helped the talented young man to believe in his musical talent.

In 1943, Almas Monasypov was drafted into the army at the age of 18. The musician took part in the Great Patriotic War as a soldier . After the end of the war he returned to study. He entered the Kazan State Conservatory, where he graduated as a cellist in 1950 in the class of Professor AW Braun. Thinking that composing music is his main calling, Monasypov returned to the conservatory in 1952 to study composition. In 1956 he graduated from the Kazan Conservatory for the second time (in the class of Professor Albert Leman ) and received a diploma as a composer. In 1964, the composer completed a full graduate course at the Conservatory specializing in operatic symphonic conducting in the class of Professor Isai Sherman.

From 1959 to 1970 Almas Monassypow worked as a conductor at the Tatar Jalil State Opera Theater. From 1970 to 1973 he was conductor of the symphony orchestra of the Tatar Tuqay State Philharmonic. From 1968 to 1973 and from 2000 to 2003 he taught composition at the Kazan Conservatory.

Since 1972 the composer lived in Moscow , but took an active part in the musical life of the Republic of Tatarstan , in the work of the Association of Tatarstan Composers and in the education of young composers. In 1991 the composer was awarded the State Tuqay Prize of the Republic of Tatarstan.

Almas Monasypov died on July 22, 2008 in Moscow and was buried in Mitinsky Cemetery. The memorial ceremony took place on July 24, 2008.

Symphonic poem Musa Jalil

The symposium poem "Musa Jalil" (the second symphony, 1971), dedicated to the famous Tatar poet hero , brought Almas Monasypov a great success. The composer, who radiates himself in the symphony through images of courage and heroism, war and enemy, invites the audience to reflect on important questions of human life, to preserve the memory of the war heroes forever and to protect the world.

Symphony III (1974)

In the Third Symphony (1974) the composer continues the philosophical theme of the search for a human place in the world, showing the complexity and necessity of enduring cruelty and violence. In the music of the symphony, the SOS signal is encoded in an interesting way. The rhythm of the SOS signal breaks through at the climax of the thematic development, when the theme begins to “scream” for help.

Symphony IV Dastan (1978)

In the fourth symphony “Dastan” (1978) the old layers of the centuries-old Tatar culture “come to life”. Monassypow always turned to the intonations and rhythms of the old baits and munajats, including their instrumental and vocal compositional implementation. The search for new means of representing the spiritual world of Tatar culture was always carried out by the composer in the context of modern trends in world music, taking into account the new directions in the development of compositional technique.

Other musical works

As a master of serious music, Monassypov is also known as the author of many popular songs and romances, which enjoy the love of listeners not only in the Republic of Tatarstan, but also far beyond. His romances and songs are characterized by interesting and beautiful melodies, an expressive rhythm as well as a rich and colorful harmony. Monassypow's compositions are also performed by pop orchestras. For example, the “Dreams” foxtrot was part of the repertoire of the well-known jazz orchestra under the direction of Oleg Lundstrem .

One of the most famous works was the vocal-symphonic poem In the Rhythms of Tuqay, written in 1975 . It combines the traditions of old Munajats, modern pop songs and European vocal and symphonic music. In 1990 the Musical Offering to Salich Saidaschew was written for the symphony orchestra, in which the author pays homage to the founder of Soviet-Tatar popular music .
