Norbert Pohlmann

Norbert Pohlmann (born March 20, 1960 in Ratingen ) is a German computer scientist and professor at the Westphalian University of Applied Sciences , Gelsenkirchen .

Life

After training as a power plant electronics technician, Pohlmann acquired access to a technical college degree in 1981 at the technical college for electrical engineering and studied electrical engineering with a focus on computer science at the FH Aachen from 1981 to 1985 . He graduated with a degree in engineering. Afterwards he was research engineer until 1988 and later head of the laboratory for telematics at the FH Aachen. From 1988 to 1999 Norbert Pohlmann was the managing partner of KryptoKom, a company for cryptographic information security and communication technology mbH. After the merger of KryptoKom with Utimaco , he was a member of the Utimaco board from 1999 to 2003 . From 1997 to 2001 he completed a doctoral degree at the Technical University of Nizhny Novgorod / Russia (NRW project). The topic of the dissertation was Capabilities and Limitations of Firewall Systems . He graduated with a doctorate as a candidate in technical science (Dr. (TU NN)).

Norbert Pohlmann has been Professor of Computer Science for Distributed Systems and Information Security in the Computer Science Department and Head of the Institute for Internet Security at the Westphalian University of Applied Sciences since 2003 .

Since April 1997, Pohlmann has been chairman of the board of the IT security association TeleTrusT (Bundesverband IT-Sicherheit eV), which has set itself the task of establishing trustworthy IT systems. He is co-initiator and chairman of the program committee of the Information Security Solutions Europe Conference (ISSE), which takes place annually in different European cities. In addition, Pohlmann is a member of the board of the ECO Association (Association of the Internet Industry eV) and a member of the scientific advisory board of the GDD ( Society for Data Protection and Data Protection eV). Before that, he was a member of the Permanent Stakeholders' Group of ENISA (European Network and Information Security Agency), the security agency of the European Community , for 5 years .

In the 2013 summer semester, Pohlmann was a visiting professor at Stanford University .
