Utimaco is an international company with headquarters in Aachen, which operates in the field of information security . Utimaco operates a pure business-to-business business.

history

Utimaco was founded in 1964 with a focus on the operation of data centers .

In 1983 Utimaco was renamed uti-maco Software GmbH under the management of Horst Görtz , who later became the company's honorary supervisory board chairman , and the focus was on information security. The locations are in Aachen (headquarters), Campbell , Milan , the United Kingdom and Singapore .

In 1991 Utimaco brought out the first generation of a hardware security module. In 1994 the company developed the first mobile LIMS .

In 1999 Utimaco took over the company KryptoKom, founded in 1988, of which Norbert Pohlmann was managing partner . At the end of May 1999 Utimaco posted annual sales of DM 51 million and KryptoKom DM 15.2 million. In the same year, Utimaco went public as Utimaco Safeware AG . As of June 30, 2000, the company listed on the Neuer Markt was able to estimate sales growth of 1.2 million euros (sales increase of 36%) for the 1999/2000 financial year . Overall, sales in the financial year amounted to 36 million euros with a loss of 0.6 million euros. In 2000 Utimaco was then included in the Nemax 50 .

In August 2005, Utimaco Safeware AG experienced an increase in sales revenue from 26.9 million euros in the previous year to 34.8 million euros (corresponding to 29%).

In 2008 Utimaco published the first Germany-wide LIMS umbrella system. Nevertheless, a decline in profits was already apparent in the first six months of the 2008/2009 financial year. Compared to the same period last year, sales fell by two percent to EUR 28.9 million during this period.

In July 2009, Sophos bought the German IT security company Utimaco. In 2012, Sophos carried out squeeze-out proceedings against Utimaco ( award proceedings at the Frankfurt am Main regional court ). In this context, Sophos Holdings GmbH informed the management board of Utimaco Safeware AG in May 2012 that they would pay the cash compensation for the transfer of the shares of the Utimaco minority shareholders to Sophos Holdings GmbH as the main shareholder to 16 euros per no - par value Utimaco bearer. No-par share . In 2013, Sophos sold Utimaco to the financial investors Pinova Capital GmbH (Munich) and BIP Capital Partners (Luxembourg), and since January 2017 the investment company EQT Partners (Stockholm) has been another shareholder.

In 2015 and 2016 Utimaco won the TOP JOB Award. In autumn 2016, construction work began on the company headquarters in Aachen-Haaren .

In 2018 Utimaco took over the Atalla Hardware Security Module (HSM) and Enterprise Secure Key Manager (ESKM) product lines from Micro Focus International plc. The Atalla hardware security module acquired by Micro Focus complements Utimaco's existing PaymentServer product line and strengthens Utimaco's position in the banking sector and for payment transactions.

In February 2020, Utimaco announced the acquisition of Geobridge (Virginia, USA). Utimaco is thus expanding its portfolio for finance to include additional solutions for key management. After completion of the takeover, Geobridge and its employees and customers will be integrated into the portfolio of the information security division (IS) of Utimaco.

As of 2020, Utimaco will be managed by Malte Pollmann, Martin Stamm and Stefan Auerbach.
