Norbert Thines

Norbert Thines (* 19th August 1940 in Kaiserslautern , † 7. June 2021 ) was a German football functionary .

From 1977 to 1984 he was managing director and from 1985 vice president of 1. FC Kaiserslautern before taking over the office of president from Jürgen Friedrich on June 6, 1988 . During his tenure, 1. FC Kaiserslautern won the DFB Cup in 1990 and 1996 and the German soccer championship in 1991 . After 1. FC Kaiserslautern's first relegation from the Bundesliga in 1996, he resigned on July 9 at an extraordinary general meeting and handed over the office to Hubert Keßler .

Thines was a representative of the Karlsberg brewery , sat on the Kaiserslautern city ​​council for the CDU and was the founder of the initiative old-poor-alone , which takes care of old people.

He was also a member and honorary chairman of the Kolping family in Kaiserslautern.

Thines was awarded the City Seal (1987) and the Golden City Plaque (2000) and the Ring of Honor (2010) of the City of Kaiserslautern, the Order of Merit of the State of Rhineland-Palatinate (1995) and the Federal Cross of Merit on Ribbon (1999). On his 75th birthday on August 19, 2015, Thines was made an honorary citizen of Kaiserslautern. Since December 3, 2017, Thines has also been Honorary President of 1. FC Kaiserslautern. Norbert Thines died on June 7th, 2021 at the age of 80.
