Hubert Keßler (football official)

Hubert Keßler (born October 13, 1934 in Schauerberg ; † July 16, 2008 ) was a German football official. From 1996 to 1998 he was president of 1. FC Kaiserslautern .

Keßler had been a member of the FCK since April 1964 and became president of the association in July 1996 and succeeded Norbert Thines , who resigned on July 9th. Keßler was the last honorary president of 1. FC Kaiserslautern to date. Also because of his friendship with Otto Rehhagel, Keßler worked towards his commitment as the team's coach.

During his tenure, the "Red Devils" with coach Otto Rehhagel rose to the Bundesliga ( 1996/97 ) and one year later they were sensationally German champions ( 1997/98 ), which no other Bundesliga team had achieved before. Michael Ballack and Miroslav Klose became involved a few years later during his tenure as President . Both players found their start in professional careers.

In 1998 Jürgen Friedrich took over the office and Keßler moved to the supervisory board, of which he was a member until November 5, 2002, most recently as chairman. In this time the announcement of venue falls Kaiserslautern during the 2006 FIFA World Cup by Franz Beckenbauer was friends with Kessler in particular through its sporting commitment. For his services as president, he received the association's golden ring of honor.

In addition to his involvement in football, Keßler worked as an insurance salesman.

On the night of Wednesday, July 16, 2008, Hubert Keßler died at the age of 73 after a serious illness.
