Norbert Wolff (General)

Norbert Wolff (born May 17, 1935 in Breslau ; † February 9, 2010 in Strausberg ) was a German officer . He was major general of the East German NVA and deputy head of the Technical Committee of the United Armed Forces of the Warsaw Treaty .

Life

Wolff, the son of a butcher, joined the Kasernierte Volkspolizei (KVP) on July 28, 1953, after attending school with a high school diploma . He became a member of the SED in 1954 . From 1954 to 1959 he was an officer auditor at the College for Officers in Dresden and in 1956 became a member of the NVA. 1959/60 he worked as a specialist teacher for ballistics at the Institute for Ballistics in Dresden. In 1960/61 he was an officer in the research and development department of the Ministry of National Defense (MfNV). In 1961/62 he completed a special course in the USSR and then in 1963/64 he was senior officer for ballistics and 1964/65 head of the subdivision mechanical engineering in the research and development department of the MfNV. From 1965 to 1972 he acted as deputy to the head of the technical administration, from 1972 to 1977 as deputy to the head of the maintenance administration of the MfNV. From May 1, 1977 to December 31, 1981 he was deputy head of the Technical Committee of the United Armed Forces of the Warsaw Treaty (successor to Horst Noack ). After his return to the MfNV, he was deputy head of technology / armament in the field of technology in 1982/83, in 1983/84 in the field of procurement / repair and from 1985 to 1990 in the field of scientific, technical and economic cooperation. After the change of government in 1990, he was deputy head of the security department in the Ministry of Disarmament and Defense (MfAuV) and most recently acting head of the main technical disarmament department. On September 30, 1990, he was released from military service.

Wolff died at the age of 74 and was buried in the Evangelical Cemetery in Strausberg.
