Norbert Zimmermann (born April 13, 1947 in Bludenz , Vorarlberg ) is an Austrian industrialist .

Career

Norbert Zimmermann studied world trade from 1967 to 1971 at the Vienna University of Economics and Business and after graduating, Zimmermann started as a systems engineer and customer advisor at IBM Vienna in 1971 . His further path led him through management tasks at Spar Österreichische Warenhandels-AG and Böhm GmbH in 1986 to the management of the nationalized Berndorfer Metallwarenfabrik .

In 1988, Zimmermann acquired the majority of the Lower Austrian company as part of a management buyout , which subsequently operated as Berndorf AG . Norbert Zimmermann converted the group of companies into an international technology conglomerate until he left operational responsibility as CEO in 2008. Today he is the main shareholder and chairman of the supervisory board of Berndorf AG and Schoeller-Bleckmann Oilfield Equipment AG . He acts as chairman of the board of the predominantly non-profit Berndorf private foundation.

In addition, Zimmermann also holds supervisory board mandates for Siemens Österreich AG, Allianz Elementar Versicherungs-AG and Gebrüder Weiss limited liability company and is chairman of the board of directors for an independent Austrian testing agency ( OePR ).

From 2004 to 2007 Norbert Zimmermann was President of the Lower Austria Federation of Industrialists and is an honorary member of the board of the Austrian Industrialists Association.

His daughter Sonja Zimmermann is also a member of the supervisory board of Berndorf AG and also serves on the board of the Berndorf Private Foundation. The Berndorf Private Foundation supports charitable projects both within and outside the Berndorf Group. Projects, initiatives or institutions are funded, particularly in the areas of entrepreneurship, social affairs, education and culture.

In the musical formation "Swinging Leaders", Norbert Zimmermann brings together four other jazz-enthusiastic entrepreneurs and executives - reinforced by the two professional musicians Peter Natterer and Richard Barnert . The band is dedicated to charity and plays under the motto “No fee but not for free”. The Swinging Leaders have been performing regularly at charity events since their inception. Saxophonist Norbert Zimmermann transferred his musical motto into life when he said: “I play what I can. And no more."
