The Nordenskjöld Ice Tongue is a wide glacier tongue on the Scott coast of the East Antarctic Victoria Land . It flows into the McMurdo Sound as an extension of the Mawson Glacier .
The ice tongue was discovered in January 1902 as part of the Discovery Expedition (1901-1904) by the British polar explorer Robert Falcon Scott , who named it after the Swedish polar explorer Otto Nordenskjöld , who was also the Swedish Antarctic Expedition (1901-1903) to explore the east coast of the Antarctic Peninsula headed.
