The Nordic Flag Society is an international association of vexillographs from the Nordic countries , which is dedicated to the study and promotion of flag science in Scandinavia .
The company has an official name for each of the five countries in which it is active:

- Norræna Fánafélagið ( Icelandic )
The society , founded in Copenhagen on January 27, 1973 , is a member of the “International Federation of Vexillological Associations” ( Fédération internationale des associations vexillologiques , FIAV for short). For the Federation she straightened 2003 Stockholm Armémuseum the 20th International Congress of Vexillologie (XX. International Congress of Vexillology) from.
The Nordic Flag Society has its own flag, mimicked a Scandinavian cross flag and the colors of which are taken from the flag of the Kalmar Union . The yellow background is covered with a "fringed" ( fimbred ) red cross. The arms of the cross meet to form a kind of bulkhead . The so-called FIAV knot is the international symbol for vexillology and can also be found on the flag of the “International Federation of Vexillological Associations”.
Twice a year the Nordic Flag Society publishes the magazine Nordisk Flaggkontakt , a 60- to 80-page publication dealing with Scandinavian and international topics in vexillology. It is published in the Scandinavian languages or in English .
