The province of Antártica Chilena ( German " Province of the Chilean Antarctica " ) is the southernmost of the four provinces in Chile's Región de Magallanes y de la Antártica Chilena and the southernmost in the country. It has 2392 inhabitants and a surface area of 17,859 km², taking into account the surface of the Chilean Antarctic territory with an area of 1,247,995 km², the area reaches 1,265,854 km².
The province includes the islands of Tierra del Fuego south of the Beagle Channel , part of the Isla Grande de Tierra del Fuego and the Chilean Antarctic Territory. The capital of the province is Puerto Williams on the island of Navarino .
The province was created on November 4, 1975 and consists of two municipalities, Cabo de Hornos (this was called Navarino until 2001 ) and Antártica . Both municipalities are administered by the municipality of Cabo de Hornos from Puerto Williams.
The most important settlements in the province are next to Puerto Williams Puerto Navarino , Caleta Eugenia and Puerto Toro , these are all on the island of Navarino. The only civil settlement in the municipality of Antártica is Villa Las Estrellas .
1518 men and 874 women live in the provinces, 1952 people live in cities, 440 in rural areas (2002 census).
