The Northern Japanese Seidelbast ( Daphne jezoensis ) is a plant type from the genus Seidelbast ( Daphne ) and belongs to the family of Thymelaeaceae .

features

The northern Japanese daphne is a summer bare, green, wintering dwarf shrub that reaches heights of up to 50 centimeters. The leaves measure 3 to 8.5 × 1 to 3.5 centimeters. The inflorescence consists of 2 to 10 flowers. The flowers are yellow. The flower tube is 4 to 9 millimeters long and bare. The fruits are red.

The flowering period extends from November to March.

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 18.

Occurrence

The northern Japanese daphne occurs on the Kuriles , Sakhalin , and northern Japan in subalpine forests, on bushy slopes and between stones at altitudes of up to 1800 meters.

A synonym for Daphne jezoensis Maxim. is Daphne kamtschatica var. jezoensis (Maxim.) Ohwi .

use

The northern Japanese daphne is rarely used as an ornamental plant for rock gardens and groups of trees. The species was brought into culture after 1960.
