North Caucasus Pig

The North Caucasus pig ( Russian Северокавказская , transcribed Severokavkasskaja ) is a multi-purpose pig breed from Russia and Uzbekistan .

Breeding history

The breed was created under the direction of PE Ladan in Rostov Oblast and the Krasnodar Region in Russia by crossing sows of the native Cuban pigs with boars of the breeds Large White , Berkshire pig and German noble pig . In 1955 the breed was officially recognized.

  • Back and loin broad and of medium length
  • Ham short and full
  • Strong foundation
  • Thick and soft bristles
  • Weight sows 228 kg, boars 279 kg
  • Time up to 100 kg: 198 days

There are 14 boar lines and 36 sow families. The meat subtype Don pork (Donskoi) (DM-1) was recognized in 1978.

Occurrence

The main breeding centers are Gornjak, Pobeda and Donskoje in Rostov Oblast , Alexejewski in Mari El and Krasny Wodopad in Tashkent Province in Uzbekistan . The breeding area is the Rostov and Volgograd oblasts , the Krasnodar and Stavropol and Mari El regions in Russia and individual areas in the Ukraine , Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan , Kazakhstan , Georgia , Azerbaijan , Tajikistan and Armenia . In 1980 the total was 195,000 purebred animals.
