North Park Wuppertal
The 33.5 hectare Nordpark is a city park in the Wuppertal district of Barmen and is located on a ridge, the highest point of which, the Wollspinnersberg , measures 273 meters.
description
The Nordstädter Citizens' Association protected the area from building since 1895 and created paths, meadows and avenues. The association planted forest trees, mostly red beeches . Fallow deer have been kept in part of the wooded area since 1955 . Around 30 animals can be found in this 3.6 hectare deer enclosure. In addition to a large playground with numerous equipment, there is an asphalt football field and the opportunity for skateboarders and inline riders to prove themselves on a halfpipe .
The excursion restaurant, the tower terrace , which used to be an attraction, is to be managed again in the future. Between the trees you have a good view of the districts of Barmen and Langerfeld, on the opposite hills in the south are Lichtscheid , the Barmer plants and the Barmer forest . There are numerous monuments and memorials in the park.
The federal motorway 46 (A 46) runs on the rear, northern side . A small allotment garden can be found on the eastern slope; in the south, near the Johanneum Evangelist School , are the Hugostraße and Siedlungsgrün cemeteries . If you cross the A 46 in the north over a pedestrian bridge or go further west through an underpass, you will reach a large allotment garden.
A 9.5-kilometer-long geology educational path ( Geopfad ) leads through the north park , which begins at the Sedanstrasse high school and ends in the Dolinengebiet im Hölken nature reserve .
The "Skywalk" viewing platform, completed in 2016, is located at the eastern end of the north park. Access is via Märkische Strasse or Hugostrasse .
The discovery of a human skull that was found in 2007 after the storm Kyrill caused a national sensation. At first one suspected an archaeological find, or a historical murder case. However, the Wuppertal archaeologist Jörg Scheidt was later able to prove that the fragment was a modern find.
