Standard Gerrard "Red" Armstrong (* 17th October 1938 in Owen Sound , Ontario ; † 23. July 1974 in . Sault Ste Marie , Ontario) was a Canadian ice hockey player , between 1960 and 1973, including for the Toronto Maple Leafs in the National Hockey League has played.
Career
Norm Armstrong began his career as a hockey player in the Canadian Junior League Ontario Hockey Association , in which he was active from 1958 to 1960 for the Sarnia Legionnaires and the Wallaceburg Hornets. Armstrong then played for two years in the Eastern Hockey League for the Charlotte Checkers and the Philadelphia Ramblers before he was signed by the Toronto Maple Leafs , for which he scored two scorer points, including one goal, in seven games in the 1962/63 season , and with whom he won the Stanley Cup that season . However, since he had not played enough games, his name was not engraved on the trophy. From 1962 to 1971 Armstrong was on the ice for Toronto's farm team , the Rochester Americans from the American Hockey League , with whom he won the Calder Cup in 1965, 1966 and 1968, respectively . In February 1971, Toronto, which still owned the transfer rights to the Canadian, Armstrong to the Springfield Kings , with whom he then won the Calder Cup for the fourth and final time. After Armstrong ran up for the Baltimore Clippers in the 1971/72 season, he ended his career in 1973 with his ex-club Rochester Americans.
Norm Armstrong died in an occupational accident on July 25, 1974 at the age of 35. As a result, his long-time club, the Rochester Americans, locked his number 6. In 1986, he was inducted into the Rochester Americans Hall of Fame .
