The Northern Foothills ( English for Northern Promontory ) are a series of hills on the Scott coast of the East Antarctic Victoria Land . On the west bank of Terra Nova Bay they form a peninsula-like continuation of the Deep Freeze Range south of the Browning Pass . The highest point is Mount Abbott at 1020 m .
They were named by the northern group of the Terra Nova Expedition (1910-1913) based on the original name "Southern Foothills" for the southern island of Inexpressible Island .
