Norton Buffalo

Norton Buffalo (born September 28, 1951 in Oakland , California as Phillip Jackson , † October 30, 2009 in Paradise , California) was an American harmonica player who was at home in a wide variety of styles ( rock , R&B , blues , country and jazz ) . He also appeared as a producer, actor and session musician.

Life

Buffalo was born in 1951 to a harmonica player in Oakland, but grew up in Richmond. Even in high school, he played in various bands. At the beginning of the 1970s he was active in various groups from the Bay Area , such as B. Clover, The Moonlighters, and Elvin Bishop .

He celebrated his greatest successes as a member of the Steve Miller Band , to which he belonged for 32 years. As a session musician, he has appeared on nearly two hundred albums, including recordings by The Doobie Brothers , Bonnie Raitt , Johnny Cash and Elvin Bishop. A cover version of his song "Ain't No Bread in the Breadbox" was often played by the Jerry García Band and is also on the live album "Shining Star". He also appeared as a producer (Wheatfield). Buffalo died of lung cancer on October 30, 2009 at the age of 58 .
