description

Distribution area of the Notadusta hungerfordi

Habitat and Distribution

The representatives of this species occur in a few zones of the Indo-Pacific and live at depths between 80 and 250 m. The most common subspecies is Notadusta hungerfordi hungerfordi , its range extends from Japan to Taiwan. The two much rarer subspecies are native to the Pacific near Queensland ( Notadusta hungerfordi coucomi ) and in the region between the Philippines and Indonesia ( Notadusta hungerfordi bealsi ). There is hardly any reliable knowledge about the habitat, and scientific observations are difficult due to the depth of the habitat.

features

The outline of Notadusta hungerfordi hungerfordi and the subspecies bealsi is pear-shaped, the second subspecies coucomi is similar, only slightly more elongated compared to the other two. The underside of the case is apricot-colored, with Notadusta hungerfordi hungerfordi stronger than with Notadusta hungerfordi bealsi , Notadusta hungerfordi coucomi is almost white. There are no marks or dots on the bottom. The teeth are rather fine and hardly protrude from the aperture . On the side of Notadusta hungerfordi hungerfordi there is often so much dark drawing that it forms a wreath. The typical size of the case is 31 to 39 mm. The largest specimen found measures 47.5 mm.

Systematics

The first descriptor George Brettingham Sowerby III classified hungerfordi in the genus Cypraea - today it is listed either in Erronea , Austrasiatica or Notadusta , with preference given to the genus Notadusta , as this classification was made and is used by means of DNA analysis . Synonym is Notadusta hungerfordi kiiensis SR Roberts, 1913.Subspecies are: Notadusta hungerfordi coucomi Schilder , 1964, named after his colleague Cedric Coucom of Yeppoon and Notadusta hungerfordi bealsi DKS Mock, 1996.
