The Notakwanon River is an approximately 150 km long river in the Canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador .
River course
The Notakwanon River forms the outflow of a nameless 440 m high lake in the east of the Labrador Peninsula . It flows mainly in an east-northeast direction to the sea. In doing so, he cuts through the hills of the Canadian Shield . The Notakwanon River eventually flows into Merrifield Bay , a bay on the east coast of the Labrador Peninsula. The river estuary is about 60 km south of the settlement of Nain . At river kilometer 130.4 there is a 9.2 m high waterfall that prevents fish from migrating into the upstream river system. The catchment area of the Notakwanon River covers 4999 km². It extends in the west to the provincial border with Québec . In the north it borders on that of the Kogaluk River , in the south on that of the Adlatok River . The vegetation in the catchment area consists mainly of lichens and low bushes. The highest point in the catchment area has a height of 610 m .
