From a trip to Rome, Nothhelm brought copies of letters from Gregory I the Great from the papal library to England, which were incorporated into Beda's church history.

Beda dedicated his book In regum librum XXX quaestiones to Nothhelm in which he answered thirty questions from Nothhelm about the biblical book of kings . The missionary Bonifatius was also in correspondence with Nothhelm.

After the death of Bishop Aldwine of Mercia in 737, his bishopric was divided: Witta became Bishop of Lichfield and Tocca ( Totta ) Bishop of Lincoln .
