The Notosuchia are a group of the Crocodylomorpha that lived during the Cretaceous Period . Fossils have been found in South America , Africa, and Asia . The Notosuchia lived terrestrially (land-dwelling). Different types of nutrition are known among the Notosuchia: Chimaerasuchus herbivor (herbivorous), Simosuchus omnivor (omnivorous) and Baurusuchus carnivor (carnivorous) lived.

features

Notosuchia were small to medium-sized, short-nosed crocodiles. The group includes many genera with very specialized traits, including mammal-like teeth, flexible, shield-like body armor similar to that of today's armadillos ( Armadillosuchus ), and possibly fleshy cheeks and pig-like snouts ( Notosuchus ).

This subordination was first scientifically described by Zulma Gasparini in 1971 , but has since experienced several phylogenetic revisions. According to Gasparini, this group can be distinguished from other groups by a number of characteristics: For example, the skull and muzzle were relatively short. The antorbital window was open, and not closed, like some other crocodile groups. The eye sockets (orbita) were located on the side of the skull. The row of teeth was short.
