The Novotel Warszawa Centrum is a hotel in the center of Warsaw . The building, built in the early 1970s, was the city's second skyscraper - after the Palace of Culture in the immediate vicinity . At the time, the state tourism company Orbis commissioned the Swedish construction company Skanska to build the hotel.
The 111 meter high building is opposite the PKO rotunda on Rondo Dmowskiego , one of Warsaw's main transport hubs, and not far from the main train station . From 2004 to 2005 it was completely renovated by cladding the facade with steel-gray panels and modernizing the entire interior and all rooms. Before the modernization, the dark yellow facade gave a "dirty" impression, which is why it was popularly known as the "large chocolate bar" (wielka tabliczka czekolady) because of its shape and cloudy color .
Originally known as the Hotel Forum , the hotel has been named after the French hotel chain Novotel since July 2002 . The current 4-star hotel was one of the first in the city to meet western standards , along with the Victoria Hotel . Around 740 guest rooms , including 22 luxury apartments, are spread over 33 floors.
