Nsimbo is one of the three districts of the Katavi region . The district is bordered by the Kigoma region to the north, the Mpimbwe district to the east and south, and the Mpanda district to the west .

geography

Nsimbo has a size of 14,623 square kilometers and around 180,000 inhabitants. The land lies between 1000 and 1500 meters above sea level and is drained by the Ugalla River.

history

The district was established on July 1, 2013.

The district is divided into two divisions, Nsimbo and Ndurumo, and twelve parishes (wards):

population

The main ethnic groups in the district are the Bende, Konongo, Fipa, Waha, Wapimbwe, Wanyarwanda, Hutu , Chaga and Sukuma .

Facilities and services

  • Education: There are 47 elementary schools and eight secondary schools in the district.
  • Health: There are three health centers and eighteen pharmacies available to provide medical care for the population.

Economy and Infrastructure

  • Agriculture: The main economic activity is agriculture. Manioc, corn, rice, sweet potatoes, bananas, potatoes, vegetables and fruits are grown for personal use. Tobacco, peanuts, sunflowers, oil and sugar cane are also planted for sale.
  • Forestry: Over sixty percent of the country's area is covered by forest. Honey production is an important part of forest management.
  • Mining: Gold, copper and silver are mined on a small scale in the district.
