The Nuaracher Höhenweg (also incorrectly called the Nurracher Höhenweg ) is a demanding high-altitude path with via ferrata passages in the Loferer Steinberge . It was named after Nuarach, the old place name of St. Ulrich am Pillersee . The Nuaracher Höhenweg is one of the most beautiful high-altitude trails in the northern Limestone Alps and leads over the peaks of the western Loferer Steinberge. Geologically interesting and impressive is the treasure trove of limestone from which the Loferer Steinberge are built. When the weather is clear, the all-round view extends from the main Alpine ridge, the Berchtesgaden Alps over the Chiemsee to Munich .

Route

The tour usually starts in St. Ulrich am Pillersee and climbs through the Lastal to the Mitterhorn 2506 m (4½ hours). As a variant, it makes sense to use one of the two via ferratas that lead to the Mitterhorn. The difficulty and length of the tour increases considerably. From the Mitterhorn you now climb over the Rothornkamm 2404 m to the Schafleck 2150 m (4 hours). Now a small, rope-secured passage has to be overcome (I-II UIAA scale). Then you descend via Seehorn and Ulrichshorn to Ortisei, where you can enjoy a wonderful view of the Pillersee (2–3 hours). The total time required is 10 to 12 hours, depending on the condition and the weather. The Schmidt-Zabierow Hut can be used as a base when climbing or descending through the Loferer Hochtal .

The path is partially exposed and requires surefootedness and a head for heights . There are no emergency descents that can be used by normal hikers, so the tour should only be completed in stable weather conditions. There is no way to replenish water during the entire hike.
