history

In 1888 the Passau section took over the Steinbergalm hut at 1280  m above sea level in the Loferer Steinberge. In order to obtain a higher base for ascents in the Loferer Steinberge, the Schmidt-Zabierow-Hütte, named after the founder of the Passau section, was inaugurated on September 9, 1899 after a two-month construction period after a lengthy planning and approval phase. Since then, the hut has been rebuilt and expanded several times. In 1995 an auxiliary building was built so that the number of storage spaces could also be increased. In 2004 the kitchen and sanitary wing were demolished and rebuilt, and in 2016 an extension was added to the adjacent building.
