Nummius Albinus

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Nummius Albinus was a Roman politician and senator of the 3rd century AD.

Nummius Albinus was a suffect consul in an unknown year . He can perhaps be identified with the consular Nummius Albinus , who was honored with a statue from Adada in Pisidia . In 256 and in the years 261 to 263 Nummius Albinus was city prefect . In 263, Nummius Albinus was also consul for the second time , together with Dexter .

The Historia Augusta mentions a city prefect under Emperor Valerian with the name Ceionius Albinus as addressee of an invented letter from the emperor. This person is probably fictional. Nummius Albinus could, however, be made into a Nummius Ceionius Albinus , as an inscription from Rome testifies to a city praetor named Marcus Nummius Ceionius Annius Albinus (late 3rd century), which shows that the name Ceionius occurs among the Nummiers .

Werner Eck identifies Nummius Albinus with the vir clarissimus Marcus Nummius Attidius Senecio Albinus mentioned in an inscription from Rome , as his wife Aurelia Flavia Archelais is documented.
