Nuno Maulide
Nuno Maulide (born December 17, 1979 in Lisbon ) is a Portuguese chemist . Since 2013 he has been Professor of Organic Synthesis at the University of Vienna . He was named Austrian Scientist of the Year 2018 by the Club of Education and Science Journalists .
Life
Nuno Maulide began studying chemistry in 1998 at the Instituto Superior Técnico in Portugal. He later studied at the Belgian Katholieke Universiteit Leuven and the École polytechnique in Paris. At the same time he completed piano studies. In 2003 he finished his studies as a Master of Science , then completed a doctoral degree at the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, where he received his doctorate in 2007 . In 2007/08 a stay at Stanford University as a postdoc with Barry M. Trost followed . From 2009 he conducted his own research group at the Max Planck Institute for Coal Research in Mülheim an der Ruhr .
In July 2013 he completed his habilitation in the field of organic chemistry at the Ruhr University Bochum , after which he was appointed full professor at the University of Vienna as the successor to Johann Mulzer . In 2018 he was appointed a corresponding member of the mathematical and natural science class of the Austrian Academy of Sciences (ÖAW), and since autumn 2018 he has also been doing research at the Research Center for Molecular Medicine (CeMM) of the ÖAW as Adjunct Principal Investigator . In January 2020 he became head of the newly opened Christian Doppler Laboratory for Entropy-Oriented Drug Design at the University of Vienna.
Maulide conducts research in the field of stereoselective synthesis of organic compounds and deals with the total synthesis of biologically active molecules. Among other things, he developed a new synthesis method for 1,4-dicarbonyls, which are important in the development of cancer therapy.
