Nyngan is a city in the Australian state of New South Wales and is located about 580 kilometers northwest of Sydney .

The place was founded in 1891 and today has 1975 inhabitants.

The city is located on the Mitchell Highway , the Barrier Highway branches off in Nyngan and leads from here to Broken Hill .

Around the turn of April / May 1990, Nyngan was hardest hit by the heavy rains in the region. Almost all buildings were under water and the population had to be evacuated.
