OAR (aka Of a Revolution ) is an American rock band that emerged from a college band at Ohio State University . Stylistically, OAR plays a mixture of rock and reggae .

history

Founded in 1996 at Ohio State University, the band OAR still consists of Marc Roberge ( vocals , rhythm guitar ), Richard On (first guitar), Jerry DePizzo ( saxophone ), Benj Gershman ( bass ) and Chris Culos ( drums ). Roberge and Culos have known each other from their childhood days in Rockville , where they later met On and Gershman and played with local bands. DePizzo first met the four at Ohio State University. The musicians sold their first two demo songs on campus and thus built up a fan base through word of mouth .

The first track written in 1997 was The Wanderer . The album of the same name was created in the same year. The next titles Roberge and Culos wrote during their stay in Israel .

Two years later, the hitherto rather unknown student band had a hit that helped them to great success. That Was a Crazy Game of Poker (many of the lyrics are influenced by Roberge's love of literature and, in particular, Stephen King's novel The Stand ).

In 1999 the band went back to the studio and a short time later the five musicians released the new demo Souls Aflame . The album Risen followed in 2001 and the live tour Any Time Now in 2002 . OAR then toured America with the album In Between Now and Then until they retired to the studio again in 2005 for new recordings. After a long time, the studio album Stories of a Stranger was released in autumn 2005 .

The ninth album All Sides was released on July 15, 2008 in the USA. This was followed by the studio album "King", the live album "Live on Red Rocks" with the show performance in the Red Rocks Park Amphitheater during the summer tour in 2012, and the eighth studio album "The Rockville LP".

For the band's 20th anniversary, the album titled "XX" was released in 2016, for which some earlier songs were re-recorded. In addition to 13 tracks (3 in a new version, 1 remix), it also contains 11 live recordings.

The band gained greater fame during the last Winter Olympics in 2018 . Russian athletes who were not allowed to start under the national flag due to the doping scandal were often referred to as " Olympic athletes from Russia ". The associated abbreviation “OAR” generated many search queries, which ultimately led to the band, among others. Streaming numbers and Google search queries increased significantly.

With the return to the recording studio in 2018, the studio album "The Mighty" was announced for March 29, 2019.
