OR calls Dr. Bruckner - The Best Doctors in Germany is a German doctor series that was filmed in the Babelsberg film studios from 1996 to 1999 .
background
The series was based on the hit US series Emergency Room . The scene of the event is the fictitious “Medical Center Berlin” clinic, at the top of which is the administrative director Dr. Bernhard Schwemmle is standing. The medical team around Dr. Bruckner deals with borderline cases in medicine. In each episode there is a new medical challenge for the Berlin doctors. The series is remotely based on the novel series “Dr. Thomas Bruckner ”from Bastei Lübbe Verlag by Dr. Willy JE Schneidrzik.
Charisma
The series was broadcast on RTL and was very successful at the beginning. After the series no longer achieved the desired audience ratings, RTL discontinued the series after 49 episodes. The repeats ran for a long time in the morning program of the Cologne private broadcaster, later in the evening program of Super RTL and until spring 2009 even on the new channel RTL Passion. The series has been repeated on RTLplus since October 2017.
action
The focus of the series is the young heart surgeon Dr. Thomas Bruckner, who and his team have to treat severe intensive medical illnesses. Bruckner has made a name for himself especially with his unconventional treatment methods. His specialty are borderline medical cases. In the pilot episode Wolfskind , a Pakistani wolf child who has hair on his arms, legs and back is planted a new heart. The illnesses described are usually always presented to patients with exceptional illnesses. Bruckner is supported in his medical endeavors by his colleagues, who value the doctor in his ideas and as a friend. Bruckner's colleagues form a professional team that finds a medical solution for every difficult case.
In the 2nd season the orthopedist Dr. Oswald Weinroth, the clinical director of the “Medical Center Berlin” (MCB), after Prof. Bergmann did not return from his vacation in the Bahamas. The pediatrician Tamara Malenka also leaves the series after the first season. She is followed by the ex-wife of Dr. Thomas Bruckner, Susan, as a pediatrician. In the episode The Death Program , Susan resigns after realizing that Thomas has slipped away forever and that she is out of place with her medical views at the MCB.
Thomas Bruckner, who has several entertaining affairs, finds his great love in the fourth season in pediatrician Beatrice. The two leave the clinic at the end of the series and go to France.
Medical errors
There were some medical errors in the doctor series. For example, a donated heart was transplanted to another patient after the recipient's brain died. Asystole , the so-called zero line in the ECG, was often treated with a defibrillator. Something that is medically unrealistic, since an unreal heart activity ( ventricular fibrillation ) must still be present for defibrillation .

criticism
- Michael Reufsteck and Stefan Niggemeier write in their television dictionary that the operating room calls Dr. Bruckner "at least in part, the Kottan determined among the doctor series [was]". The series oscillates constantly between "stupid and brilliantly clever".
