The Oaky River is a river in the northeast of the Australian state of New South Wales .

geography

The river has its source below Round Mountain in Cathedral Rock National Park in the Northern Tableland of New South Wales. From its source it flows about 51 kilometers to the southwest and flows into the Chandler River in the northern part of the Oxley Wild Rivers National Park .

Shortly before entering the Oxley Wild Rivers National Park, the river to Oaky River Lake (891 m above sea level) is dammed and its hydropower is used to generate electricity. The river then plunges into the wild Oaky River Gorge .

The Oaky River and its tributaries are considered good fishing water for trout and there is also platypus .
