Upper spani oil
The Upper Spaniöl (distinguished from the Lower Spaniöl by its elevated position above the core of the old town) is a bourgeois mansion in the Grisons canton capital Chur between the Martinskirche and the courtyard .
meaning
The listed building is the oldest free-standing house in Chur's old town, which otherwise only had mostly standardized row houses, and thus evidence of the awakening self-confidence of the bourgeoisie in the early modern period . The Upper Spaniöl forms the end point of a development that can be studied in Chur at the Red House .
history
The building was built in 1645 by the captain Carl von Salis-Grüsch , the architect is unknown. The north facade of the building is covered by a curved gable . A small double-sided bay window protrudes from the first floor . The living rooms face south towards the garden. Above the portal is an alliance coat of arms Salis and Gugelberg von Moos.
Furnishing
The interior is characterized by arched corridors that run along the south side of the courtyard. On the first floor there are panel rooms, one of them with a coffered ceiling from 1645 with a tower stove from 1750 from the Meyer von Steckborn workshop.
Monument protection
Obere Spaniöl is included in the list of cultural assets of national importance in the canton of Graubünden . Compared to hang Windwärts runs likewise listed building complex of Mars oil .
