The Obere Tor is a city ​​gate in Mindelheim , a town in the Unterallgäu district ( Bavaria ), which was first mentioned in 1337. It was also known as the Habern Gate and Habern Gate until the 16th century. The upper gate is a listed building.

The existing gate tower, like the inlet gate , was built around 1500. The porch was demolished in 1873. This was probably the gatekeeper's apartment. A renovation took place in 1963.

description

The square tower with a height of 28 meters is made of bricks and plastered. The passage is covered by a barrel vault , on the west side of which there is a round arched gate and on the east side there is a pointed arched gate. The tower has five upper floors with small openings on the east and west sides. On the east side, there are two narrow slits in each of the first three upper floors. The fourth floor has a curtain arch opening in a rectangular panel, analogous to the west side. A new dial is attached above . On the west side, the upper floors contain a rectangular opening with sloping walls, a keel-arched opening and a rectangular opening with stepped walls, starting from below. The fourth and fifth floors are identical on the west side to the east side. On the north side, small openings with curtain arches are inserted in the top two floors . This can also be found on the penultimate floor on the south side, above it is a small rectangular window. The tower is covered with a tent roof with a renewed hollow tile roof. In the west and east there is a gable with an arched opening, in the north and south there is a low, wide gable with a flat, curved opening. The roof corners are bordered by octagonal oriel towers with a profiled cornice. The bay windows are finished with a conical pointed helmet with a hollow brick covering.

The facade was painted in 1963 by Ernst Göhlert from Augsburg . Old findings served as a template for the painting. At the corners of the tower there is a toothed ashlar to see the archway and openings each narrow frame. The painted coats of arms of the Lords of Teck, Frundsberg and Wittelsbacher are attached above the western archway. A crucifixion group , designated 1963 , is shown in the pointed arch above the eastern arch. Mindelheim's city arms with the year 1337 painted over it.
