Oberglatt is a hamlet on the Glatt in the Swiss canton of St. Gallen , which belongs to the municipality of Flawil . Oberglatt was first mentioned in 731 as villa Clata .
Oberglatt lies between Flawil and Gossau on the former trade route from St. Gallen to Wil . Oberglatt was the ecclesiastical center of the village of Flawil; concerts are occasionally held in the church due to the good acoustics.
One of the buildings in Oberglatt is the “Hirschen”, which previously served as a trading center and warehouse, and in which a restaurant was last housed. A few horses were always kept in front of the trading center, which were used for harnessing, as the road to Flawil is extremely steep.
In 1798 Oberglatt was assigned to the Helvetic district of Flohweil, in 1803 Oberglatt, Burgau and Flawil were combined to form the political municipality of Flawil.
With the construction of the Reformed Church in Flawil in 1911, Oberglatt's importance decreased. Today the regional wastewater treatment plant Oberglatt for the communities of Flawil, Gossau and Degersheim is located there .
