Oberhof (Ober-Erlenbach)

State domain Oberhof

The Oberhof in the Bad Homburg district of Ober-Erlenbach is a listed former agricultural property.

There are no documents about the construction of the farm. A construction between 1691 and 1770 is considered likely. During this time the lords of Ingelheim were sovereigns, under whom the school and church (1765) were built. The farm served the Lords of Ingelheim as an agricultural center in the village.

After the end of the Grand Duchy of Frankfurt , Ober-Erlenbach became part of the Grand Duchy of Hesse . The farm continued to be owned by the Ingelheim family. In 1863 they sold it to the Grand Duchy. It thus became a state domain . The domain is still owned by the State of Hesse today .

Today the property is in the traditional three-sided form of a three-sided courtyard from the first half of the 19th century. The courtyard entrance with pillar-shaped sandstone pillars, a large, half-timbered administrator's house and stables, some of which are equipped with sandstone pillars and groin vaults , surround you big yard. There are also barns and a multi-storey servants' house .

Until the 1950s, the domain was used as a farm. Today it is largely empty and in poor condition. The state of Hesse is planning a sale. A citizens' initiative tries to convince the city of Bad Homburg to purchase the property and use it as a multi-generation house .
