Obersalbach-Kurhof is one of seven districts of the Saarland community of Heusweiler . With 668 inhabitants (as of 2014) it is the smallest district of the municipality.

Obersalbach-Kurhof is located on the western edge of the vast Heusweiler basin in the upper Köllertal . Neighboring places are Saarwellingen-Schwarzenholz in the west and Saarwellingen-Reisbach , to whose parish the place belongs as a branch, in the north. The A 8 motorway and the 1. O. 141 road run south between the districts of Niedersalbach and Obersalbach-Kurhof. To the east is the main municipality of Heusweiler. Obersalbach-Kurhof is connected to all of the above-mentioned villages via municipal roads, but there are no border buildings to the neighboring towns. The mean altitude of the district is 250 m above sea level, the highest point is the "Hilgenbacher Höhe" at 324.8 m above sea level.

The total size of the district is 484 ha, of which agricultural area 345 ha, forest 104 ha, built-up area 21 ha, local recreation area "Kallenborn" 11 ha, cemetery, green and garden land 3 ha. Geologically, the soil of this area belongs to the "Ottweiler layers “, A subdivision of the hard coal age ( carbon ) in the ancient earth times more than 250 million years ago. The "Ottweiler layers" are the most recent deposits in carbon and are therefore rather "low in carbon". Nevertheless, as early as the 15th century there were reports of coal mining in the above-ground tunnel operation on Obersalbacher Bann. Up until the year 2000, the Schäfer group of companies operated a “near-day” coal mine on the Obersalbach-Reisbach boundary. The mining damage in recent years can be traced back to mining measures in the layers that are covered by the "Ottweiler layers". Most of the topsoil above the Carboniferous is very barren and sterile. But nature has compensated for the lack of coal above the "Ottweiler layers" in a special way through the high fertility of the soil on the surface. If the "granary of the Saarbrücker Land" has been spoken of since time immemorial, then the entire district of Obersalbach-Kurhof belongs to it.

history

Obersalbach-Kurhof was created when the two places Obersalbach and Kurhof grew together. Both places are mentioned together for the first time in 1428 in a Nassau document. Obersalbach belonged to the lordship of Kriechingen -Püttlingen and Kurhof (or Churhoff ) was subordinate to Nassau-Saarbrücken . After the French occupation in 1816, the localities of the mayor's office of Heusweiler were attached. During a ban survey in 1843, Prussian land surveyors counted 29 houses in Obersalbach and 6 in Kurhof. The first common school building for both places, which also served as a chapel, was built in 1867 and inaugurated a year later.

In 1936 the independent municipality of Salbach was created from the towns of Obersalbach, Kurhof and Niedersalbach . The Salbach Community School was built in 1938, and from now on the old school chapel building only served as a place of worship before it was demolished in 1955. With the end of the Second World War , the village was initially under US military administration for a short time, but from July 10, 1945 under French military administration. On January 1, 1958, Niedersalbach was spun off and Obersalbach-Kurhof became an independent municipality. In the same year the residents build the village church. As part of the reorganization law, Obersalbach-Kurhof becomes one of seven districts of the municipality of Heusweiler on January 1, 1974. With the closure of the primary school on June 27, 2008, the 140-year history of the town came to an end.
