history

The name Schwarzenholz does not come from black wood, but has its origin in the Middle Ages: In various documents (donation and purchase documents of the Fraulautern Abbey ) from the period from 1235 to 1279 the name is: Suarcenholf, Suarcenoth, Swarcenholc, Suarzenhoch, Suarzenholch. The last part of the word -olc or -holc denotes a fenced in manor . The first part names the owner from the time of the first settlement: Suarto. Suarcenholc was therefore the enclosed manor of the Suartos.

Since the Middle Ages, the place has belonged to the Abbey of Fraulautern , which had received imperial immediacy after a trial before the Imperial Court of Justice because of the possessions in Schwarzenholz .

The most famous daughter of the place is Katharina Weißgerber , called Schultze Kathrin, the Samaritan woman of the Battle of Spichern at the beginning of August 1870.
