The upper school center I Barnim (spelling OSZ I Barnim) is located north of Bernau near Berlin in the district of Waldfrieden . In the facility, 48 teachers teach over 1,000 students in various courses.
In addition to the various apprenticeships, the vocational high school offers three different focuses: education, economics, and design and media technology. The catchment area of the upper level center is supraregional.
history
The Oberstufenzentrum I Barnim was founded in 1994 as an association of the regional vocational schools in Bernau and Eberswalde and began operations in Bernau and Wandlitz in the 1994/95 school year . The first headmaster was Rolf Schneider.
In the course of the increasing mechanization of occupations in the administrative sector and the growing importance of modern media for learning processes, the two locations reached their limits at the end of the 1990s.
The vacancy of the Waldfrieden school location in Bernau was used by the school authority in close cooperation with the city of Bernau as an opportunity to create a new campus for several educational institutions. In 2004 the Upper School Center I Barnim moved into the new premises.
In 2019 the OSZ I Barnim celebrates its 25th anniversary.

Promotion and cooperation
The upper school center works with various extracurricular cooperation partners. The health day is organized with various health providers from the region. The OSZ I Barnim also cooperates with the Education & Crafts North Foundation in Bernau and the Berlin University of Applied Sciences .
Certification
Since 2019, the OSZ 1 Barnim has been one of the first schools in the state of Brandenburg to have acquired the Spanish-language DELE qualification (Diploma de Español como Lengua Extranjera) as an examination center and are therefore allowed to take the official examination for levels A1, A2, B1 and B2 . These are four independent diplomas, which correspond to the first four levels of the Common European Framework of Reference.
In addition, the French-language DELF certificate (Diplôme d'études de langue francaise) can be obtained.
Furnishing
All rooms in the upper school center are equipped with interactive whiteboards that enable the students to learn modernly using blackboard and learning software. In addition, there are several notebook trolleys that can be used individually throughout the house. The upper school center is a chalk-free school.
The Upper School Center has a collection of specialist books accessible to schoolchildren. Further specialist classrooms (music room, tasting kitchen, games room, nursing room, work rooms, art room) are available for teaching lessons.
School events
In addition to the usual lessons, various school events take place at OSZ I Barnim:
- Health days in cooperation with providers from the region, such as the Free Church Hospital Bernau, the Allgemeine Ortskrankenkasse (AOK), the German Red Cross (DRK) and the Caritas drug advice service
- Road safety days in cooperation with the German traffic watch and the police
- Project days on other topics
Support association
The Förderverein OSZ I Barnim eV is a non-profit association consisting of 23 members. This includes parents, teachers and students as well as members of the school management and the secretariat. The task is to enrich educational activities and school life by supporting projects, events and ideas that go beyond the usual school framework. This particularly applies to support for student exchanges, e.g. B. to partner schools in the Czech Republic or China , the financial support of parties or the appreciation of students and trainees for special achievements.
Historic location
The upper school center has been located on the site of the former federal school of the General German Trade Union Federation since 2004 . The building complex of Oberstufenzentrum, designed by the architect Georg Waterstradt following the building of the Bauhaus architects Hannes Meyer and Hans Wittwer , stands since 1977 under monument protection and counts for since July 2017 World Heritage of UNESCO .
Together with the Barnim Gymnasium Bernau , the OSZ I Barnim operates at this location as the BarnimWissensZentrum.
In addition to the two educational institutions, the Waldfrieden outdoor pool is located on the park-like and listed area . The former sports hall of the ADGB is used jointly by the local institutions and clubs.
