The Oberwaldhaus is a listed inn in Darmstadt .
History and description
The Oberwaldhaus is located on the Steinbrücker pond and was built in 1901 according to plans by the architects Franz Frenay and Johann Kling . Stylistically, the excursion restaurant belongs to historicism with echoes and details of the local architectural style.
Notable details are:
- Sandstone base
- Sandstone walls
- Ornamental framework in the gable and on the tower
- the open hall inside the building; with the visible supporting structure, lugs and the truss
- slate-covered gable roof
The roof and the interior were destroyed in a fire in 1991. After the fire, the building was reconstructed true to the original.
Monument protection
For architectural and city history reasons, the building is a cultural monument .
