Oberwelbsleben is a desert to the west of (Nieder) - welbsleben in the district of Mansfeld-Südharz in Saxony-Anhalt . The place was on the Langetalbach between Welbsleben and Endorf.

history

The place possibly originates from the Thuringian times and was probably founded around 600 at the latest. In 964 a Welbsleben as Welpsleve was first mentioned in a letter of foundation from the Margrave Gero to the monastery Gernrode , to whom among other things 3 hooves were given there. On July 26, 1073, King Heinrich IV confirmed his father's donations to the church of Ballenstedt , including 3 Hufen in Welbsleben. On May 24, 1179, Pope Alexander III. the monastery Hagenrode with its goods, including 4 hooves in one of the Welbsleben (called Welpesleve ), in its protection. On January 8, 1200, Abbot Heithenrich of the Nienburg Monastery confirmed the possessions of the Hagenrode Monastery in one of the Welbsleben (again called Welpesleve ). Pope Innocent III took the Nienburg monastery under its protection on February 5, 1205 and confirmed, among other things, its possession of 10 hooves in Welbsleben (again called Welpesleve ). Two years later, on August 9, 1207, he also took the Gernrode monastery under his protection and once again confirmed its ownership of 3 hooves in Welbsleben, among other things. Pope Gregory IX, too . took the Gernrode monastery under its protection on June 12, 1227 and once again confirmed its ownership, including the 3 Hufen from Welbsleben. In Welbsleben around 1241, Heinricus plebanus witnessed a donation from Count Walther von Arnstein to the hospital in Hettstedt .

Bernard III von Anhalt enfeoffed Hans Kegel on April 11, 1332 with 6 hooves in Kelyngvelde , two hooves in Niederwelbsleben (called Neder-Welsleve ) and a farm in Oberwelbsleben (called Over-Welpsleve ). Oberwelbsleben was not mentioned on July 13, 1387 when the surrounding villages of Endorf, Niederwelbsleben and Quenstedt were sold from the Arnstein rule by the Counts of Regenstein to the Counts of Mansfeld .

Around 1400 the village gave two solidi procuratorial fees under the name Superior Welpsleve . In 1413 the Margraves Friedrich and Wilhelm von Meißen enfeoffed the Counts of Mansfeld with Oberwelbsleben (called Ober-Welpsleben ) and Ulzigerode . Around 1570, the chronicler Cyriacus Spangenberg describes Oberwelbsleben as a desert village. The village hall has merged into that of Niederwelbsleben.

particularities

  • There was a church in the village that was presumably consecrated after the Holy Cross.
  • The so-called silver bell in the Niederwelbsleben church was removed from the desert.
  • In the desert a large square tower is said to have stood for a long time, which had several floors and which last belonged to the Junkers from Hoym . This was either the church tower or the old residential tower of the seat of the knight family of Welbsleben. The surrounding fields were called tower fields
