Wilhelm II. (Meissen)

Wilhelm II the Rich (* April 23, 1371 ; † March 30, 1425 ) was the second son of Margrave Friedrich the Strengen and Katharina von Henneberg .

When Chemnitz was divided in 1382, he and his brothers Friedrich and Georg († 1401) received the Osterland and Landsberg , and after the death of Margrave Wilhelm I the One-Eyed in 1407, a part of Meissen . In the Treaty of Naumburg 1410, however, the brothers Friedrich and Wilhelm agreed on a renewed division of the country, divided the Osterland among themselves and in the 1411 location , Wilhelm received the greater part of the Osterland as his personal share, for which his brother Friedrich gave him a swap in Leipzig instead of Jena . In the Electoral Care of Coburg in Franconia , he temporarily appeared as Landgrave of Thuringia. In 1417, together with his brother Friedrich, he notarized the border divide to the diocese of Bamberg with Bishop Albrecht von Wertheim and in 1424 concluded a contract with Count Georg von Henneberg-Aschach-Hartenberg on the establishment of a Landwehr . In 1420 Wilhelm took part in his brother's campaign against the Hussites in Prague .

Wilhelm II died on March 30, 1425 and is said to have been married to Amelia of Mazovia, from which marriage no children resulted. In the opinion of Karlheinz Blaschke , however, he remained unmarried.
