The Oblates of the Sacred Heart of Jesus ( Fr . : Oblates du Coeur de Jésus ) belong to the institutes of consecrated life in the Roman Catholic Church . The abbreviation of the order of the congregation is OCJ .

history

The congregation has its origins in a sodality that the Blessed Louise-Thérèse de Montaignac de Chauvance founded in Montluçon , Auvergne . She had a great devotion to the Heart of Jesus and was looking for a community that was particularly dedicated to this form of worship. On the advice of her confessor, François-Xavier Gautrelet, founder of the prayer apostolate , she did not join an existing community, but eventually founded the Oblates of the Sacred Heart of Jesus .

The Bishop of Moulins , Pierre-Simon de Dreux-Brézé , approved the community on December 21, 1874. On October 4, 1881, the Congregation received a decretum laudis . The final approval by the Holy See took place on May 16, 1888. The statutes were approved on May 4, 1895.

The institute has 43 branches worldwide. The parent company is located in Montluçon. The sisters devote themselves above all to upbringing, caring for orphans and other works of charity.
