Obra ( Hindi : ओबरा , Obarā ) is a small town in the Sonbhadra district in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh .
Obra is an acronym for “Outer Bank of Rihand Area”. The city of Obra lies on the banks of the Son , a tributary of the Ganges , at an altitude of 211 m . At the 2011 census, Obra had 46,574 inhabitants, of which 53% were men and 47% were women. 12.3% of the population was six years or younger.

Obra is the location of a coal-fired power plant with 13 blocks and a total of 1550 MW and a hydropower plant with a maximum output of 99 MW.
