The Observatoire de Strasbourg is an observatory in Strasbourg , France. It was built in 1881 based on a design by Hermann Eggert and is now part of the University of Strasbourg . It houses a planetarium and is surrounded by the university's botanical garden.

Well-known astronomers who worked at the Strasbourg observatory: Ernst Becker , Julius Bauschinger , André Danjon , William Lewis Elkin (1855–1933), Ernest Esclangon , Ernst Hartwig (1851–1923), Carlos Jaschek (1926–1999), Pierre Lacroute (1906–1993), Otto Tetens , Carl Wilhelm Wirtz , Walter Wislicenus .

The modern extension (1999) of the observatory houses the Strasbourg planetarium . The Center de Données astronomiques de Strasbourg is also located at the Strasbourg Observatory.
