Ernst Hartwig
Carl Ernst Albrecht Hartwig (born January 14, 1851 in Frankfurt am Main , † May 3, 1923 in Bamberg ) was a German astronomer .
Life
He discovered a new star in the Andromeda Galaxy on August 20, 1885 . This became known as Supernova S Andromedae . He observed the Venus transit of 1882 in Argentina . In 1874 he became an assistant at the Observatoire de Strasbourg . While observing comet 6P / d'Arrest in 1883, he discovered five NGC objects. In 1884 he became an astronomer at the Dorpat observatory and in 1886 director of the Bamberg observatory .
In 1902, he was awarded the Prix Valz by the Académie des Sciences for his heliometric observations and his work on variable stars . Craters on the moon ( Hartwig ) and Mars were named after Ernst Hartwig.
