Walter Wislicenus
Walter Friedrich Wislicenus (born November 5, 1859 in Halberstadt , † October 3, 1905 in Strasbourg , Alsace, from typhus ) was a German astronomer. He was a son of Adolf Timotheus Wislicenus and nephew of the pastor Gustav Adolf Wislicenus .
From 1880 he was an astronomer at the Strasbourg observatory , from 1889 private lecturer and from 1894 to 1897 associate professor of astronomy at the University of Strasbourg .
In 1899 he founded the division organ Astronomical Annual Report and published the first volumes; this yearbook was replaced in 1969 by the biannual Astronomy and Astrophysics Abstracts .
The asteroid (4588) Wislicenus and a crater on Mars are named after him.
