The Oeschger Bluff is a flattened cliff made of rock and snow in Marie-Byrd-Land in West Antarctica . It rises in the southeastern part of Mount Takahe .
The United States Geological Survey mapped the formation based on its own measurements and aerial photographs of the United States Navy between 1959 and 1966. The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names named the cliff in 1975 after the Swiss physicist and climate researcher Hans Oeschger (1927-1998), who was part of the United States Antarctic Research Program worked as a glaciologist at Byrd Station in two consecutive summer campaigns between 1968 and 1970 .
